My Grade 2 Graduate!

Hannah graduated from Grade 2 this past Thursday!

DSC_2366

She was in a 2/3 split and did so well!  Her teacher was absolutely amazing and brought the very best out in Hannah!  Mme N took an interest in each child in her classroom, learned what made them tick and focused in on their personal needs and how each student learned.  Hannah’s confidence in the classroom grew by leaps and bounds as she went from a little girl who sat back and observed others to one who fully participated.  It was an amazing transformation as I had watched Hannah be an observer for all of her earlier years in school.

I am blessed to have a job that allows me the option to work a little extra each day and then have every 3rd Monday off.

IMG_5172On these Mondays I volunteered in Hannah’s classroom in the mornings.  It was neat to observe her grow as well as get to know her classmates and teacher too.  I often didn’t understand what was being said as everything in the classroom is done in French but it was amazing to see Hannah confidently fully participate in French and also make many new friends!

We went to the school fun fair earlier in June and Hannah enjoyed hanging out with many different friends from her class.IMG_4978

We are both very thankful for Mme N and are hoping Hannah has her for a teacher again next year!IMG_5121

On the last day of school each child was presented with a ‘Classroom Award’ and Hannah’s was perfect for her!!  She has always loved digging through the recycling bin in her classroom and making creations out of what she found.  (Mme would tell me that she’d bury things down in the bin so that Hannah and he little friend B wouldn’t find them as they’d both pull them out to make their creations.  LOL!)

Her award was accompanied by this adorable pic!

For now, it’s summer!!  Goodbye’s are hard but the break is welcome!

I like to pick Hannah up little treats to celebrate her accomplishments on the last day of school.  This year is was Canada 150th Birthday Day Tic Tacs and water balloons.  I love how excited these little things make her!

Building Self-Watering Planters

A couple of years ago my co-worker Cory introduced Hannah and I to self-watering planters.

At 5 he helped her drill holes in the top bucket!  She loved this!!IMG_7206

A little bit of hard work never hurt anyone.IMG_7215

This is h-e-a-v-y!!IMG_7221

Planting peas (which sadly the bunnies enjoyed before we could) with Bethie, Cory’s daughter.IMG_7212

IMG_7210

In the end the planter worked wonderfully and we had lots of fresh tomatoes later in the summer!IMG_8230

IMG_8232

Earlier this month we went back to Mr. Cory’s house with a co-worker and his nephew and built a new planter using bigger buckets that wouldn’t need to be watered quite so frequently.  (We won’t talk about the tons of rain we’ve had this year that is also helping out!  Yikes!!!)

Hannah was much more confident this year and jumped right in there.IMG_4986

More drillingIMG_4989

The bottom of the top bucket.  The small holes are for air circulation, the middled sized hold one the side is for the watering pipe and the large hole in the centre is for the cup that will feed water up to the plant roots.IMG_4991

Jump Rope for Heart

I am thankful to work close to home which allows me to attend some functions at Hannah’s school.  Recently it was their ‘Jump Rope for Heart’ activity.  It was a beautiful sunny afternoon and the kids jumped rope at different stations for 2 hours…all for a good cause.

Gymnastics Graduation

Hannah completed another session of recreational gymnastics at our local gym and as always enjoyed her time.  I had changed her lesson to an evening class so that she could be back with Coach Alla and it was a good decision.  Alla is a great coach who pushes Hannah to do better which is something she needs.  She did so well and all of her skills progressed this term.  We’ll take the summer off and then she’ll go back in September.

Way to go Hannah!  Mommy is very proud of you!IMG_5116 - Copy

Hannah was excited to be in this session with her good friend Riley!  (I was thankful to have her Mom Melanie to visit with each Monday evening too.)  I’m thankful for the friendship Hannah and Riley continue to share even though they are in different classes at school this year.  They’ll be back together in gymnastics next September and we’re hoping at school too!IMG_5118

Father’s Day 2017–Thankful

Hannah and I were extra thankful to celebrate Father’s Day with Dad yesterday.  He gave us a scare last week when he and mom needed to leave my piano recital as Dad was having chest pains.  (I teased him that he’ll do anything to avoid a piano recital!)  Thankfully it was quickly ruled out not to be a heart attack but he will be following up with a cardiologist this week.  So this Father’s Day we are extra thankful for Dad!

Mother’s Day 2017 ~ Blessed

Hannah and I joined mom and dad for our annual Mother’s Day dinner and it was such a wonderful evening!  We enjoy spending time together.

We attempted to take pictures in our normal location at the restaurant but due to the recent heavy rains and flooding the area was closed off so we waited to take pics back at mom and dad’s house.

We love you mom/grandma.  Happy Mother’s Day!IMG_4879

IMG_4885

On this day of celebration I was acutely aware the many mother’s days in the past when my heart ached as I longed to be a mom.  For those whose hearts are longing to be a mom, please know I prayed for you.  For those who spent this day only being able to remember times with their mom, please know I prayed for you too.  So many dear friends have lost parents recently and my heart aches for you.  Lifting you up in prayer.

Mother’s Day with Hannah 2017

Mother’s Day was a great day from start to finish!  Hannah made breakfast  and offered to serve me breakfast in bed.  Although it would have been a treat, thinking about food and drinks being carried up stairs on carpet only a couple of weeks old led me to join her downstairs for breakfast. Winking smile

Hannah had created a sweet menu to introduce all the pieces of the meal she had planned.IMG_4871

The delicious meal included cranberry juice, a sweeeeeet treat, a brownie cut in the shape of a heart and then in two and milk.    IMG_4872

IMG_4876

I love all the care Hannah took to make every part of this day special!

Hannah is super creative as you can tell from our breakfast and her gifts were precious too!  Grandma took her to the Dollar store and allowed her to choose things and it was amazing to see what she created with her choices.

as well as a sweet key chain that she’d made at school.IMG_4892

It means so much to me that so many of her gifts are pictures she’s drawn of she and I together!!   At daycare she made this sweet mug with a plant in it.IMG_4947

Thank you for making Mother’s Day soooo special Hannah!!  Mommy loves you!!!!  xoxo

Flood Repairs–It’s Almost Time and We’re Ready!!

It’s been 7 weeks since our flood and finally it’s almost time for the repairs to be started.  Hannah and I couldn’t be more ready!

2 weeks ago they repaired the missing ceiling and I will say it made a much bigger difference then I realized it would and it was a welcome change.  We’d been living with a gaping hole in the living room and kitchen for 5 weeks when the repair took place.IMG_4518

I was surprised how much every day noise went from floor to floor but I guess it makes sense when all that was separating the 2 floors was a sheet of plywood.  It did make it easy to call her for dinner though. Smile

It was such a treat to drive home and see a repair truck in the driveway.IMG_4706 - Copy

A work in progressIMG_4707

Taped and mudded.  I’d considered leaving the ceiling flat but it would be an additional cost to do so and in these days of finding extra $’s here and there it was an easy decision to have them put the popcorn ceiling back up.IMG_4708

It was still wet here thus the variety of colours.  IMG_4712

One of the things that happened in a number of locations that I hadn’t anticipated was that the ceiling paint bled onto the walls.  IMG_4784

I will say that I noticed it but just figured it was normal.  I was pleasantly surprised when I found out they will probably be repainting the main floor because of it.  What a treat!!  A fresh coat of paint make such a difference!  I’m going to go with a similar colour to what I have as everything has been chosen with the current colour in mind but will just be lightening it up a bit.IMG_4788

I received information from the contractor that the rest of the repairs should be completed next week and the week after.  Woot!!  We’ve been on hold waiting for the carpet to arrive but it should be in by Friday and the repairs can start next Monday.  Yay!

In the meantime, Hannah and Auntie Deb gave me these beautiful flowers to brighten our home and what a treat they are!!  IMG_4785
