Building Self-Watering Planters

A couple of years ago my co-worker Cory introduced Hannah and I to self-watering planters.

At 5 he helped her drill holes in the top bucket!  She loved this!!IMG_7206

A little bit of hard work never hurt anyone.IMG_7215

In the end the planter worked wonderfully and we had lots of fresh tomatoes later in the summer!IMG_8230

Earlier this month we went back to Mr. Cory’s house with a co-worker and his nephew and built a new planter using bigger buckets that wouldn’t need to be watered quite so frequently.  (We won’t talk about the tons of rain we’ve had this year that is also helping out!  Yikes!!!)

Hannah was much more confident this year and jumped right in there.IMG_4986

The bottom of the top bucket.  The small holes are for air circulation, the middled sized hold one the side is for the watering pipe and the large hole in the centre is for the cup that will feed water up to the plant roots.IMG_4991

Jump Rope for Heart

I am thankful to work close to home which allows me to attend some functions at Hannah’s school.  Recently it was their ‘Jump Rope for Heart’ activity.  It was a beautiful sunny afternoon and the kids jumped rope at different stations for 2 hours…all for a good cause.

Gymnastics Graduation

Hannah completed another session of recreational gymnastics at our local gym and as always enjoyed her time.  I had changed her lesson to an evening class so that she could be back with Coach Alla and it was a good decision.  Alla is a great coach who pushes Hannah to do better which is something she needs.  She did so well and all of her skills progressed this term.  We’ll take the summer off and then she’ll go back in September.

Way to go Hannah!  Mommy is very proud of you!IMG_5116 - Copy

Hannah was excited to be in this session with her good friend Riley!  (I was thankful to have her Mom Melanie to visit with each Monday evening too.)  I’m thankful for the friendship Hannah and Riley continue to share even though they are in different classes at school this year.  They’ll be back together in gymnastics next September and we’re hoping at school too!IMG_5118

Father’s Day 2017–Thankful

Hannah and I were extra thankful to celebrate Father’s Day with Dad yesterday.  He gave us a scare last week when he and mom needed to leave my piano recital as Dad was having chest pains.  (I teased him that he’ll do anything to avoid a piano recital!)  Thankfully it was quickly ruled out not to be a heart attack but he will be following up with a cardiologist this week.  So this Father’s Day we are extra thankful for Dad!
